The Cat Colony That Chose Each Other: Lessons in Love Without Bloodlines

If you think family has to look alike, think again. At Pleasant Pasture, our cat colony is living proof that love is about choice, not genetics.
Out of the 14 cats that call our colony home, only four are biologically relatedâbut you wouldnât know it from watching them. They sleep together in tangled heaps, groom one another with surprising tenderness, and chase invisible ghosts together through the barn rafters like lifelong siblings. Sure, they bickerâabout sunbeam territory, snack distribution, or who knocked over the broom this timeâbut doesnât every family?
Despite the dramatic flair of some (weâre looking at you, George!), and the brooding mystery of others (hi, Midnight), theyâve chosen to build their own community. They know each other's quirks, respect each other's space (eventually), and come together when it matters most.
Like the time one of the older cats - Tommy - reached the end of his 9th life and every single member of the colony took turns curling up beside him until he peacefully passed. Or the daily parade they perform when itâs treat timeâeach with their own route, yet always arriving together like a perfectly timed flash mob.
Here at Pleasant Pasture, they remind us that the bonds we build by choice can be just as strongâsometimes strongerâthan those weâre born into.
